Housing Scheme, Chatham, Kent
Planning consent for this 24 unit scheme in Chatham was granted in May 2019. The proposals will see the provision of 18 flats and 6 houses on the site of a former community care centre close to the centre of Chatham.
The site occupies half of a whole urban block, and the scheme has been carefully designed so as to work with and reinstate the existing urban grain while responding appropriately to local context. The flat block creates a focal point to a street corner and subtly references the nearby Phoenix Academy School. At the other end of the site a series of three bed houses work respond to the dominant domestic scale and rhythm of the local housing.
The scheme will substantially improve the local area through the provision of much needed new housing, and the regeneration of a site that has long stood vacant.
