New build house – South Downs National Park
We were commissioned to design this highly bespoke 2800 sq ft private house on a stunning site located in the South Downs National Park, which was to replace a dilapidated dwelling on the site.
The design consists of a pair of asymmetrical timber, brick and zinc clad boxes with large areas of south facing glazing for solar gain. The design approach is driven by the characteristics of the site, in terms of planting, orientation and views.
A separate ‘power centre’ with bio-fuel boiler and renewables would enable the proposal to be a very low energy design, as well as being designed along passive and low energy principles.
